How to get more ceramic coating jobs
Ceramic coating is the job most detailers want more of: a bigger ticket, a better car and a customer who comes back for maintenance. Here's what actually brings those jobs in, in the order we'd do it.
Coating customers behave differently from someone booking a valet. The job costs several hundred pounds, often well over £1,000 once paint correction is included, so people research first. They search things like ceramic coating near me, ceramic coating plus their town, and how much is ceramic coating. They look at photos and reviews, and they compare two or three detailers before they get in touch.
So winning more coating work comes down to three things: being found for those searches, looking like the obvious choice when you are, and making it easy to book.
1. Make your Google Business Profile say "ceramic coating"
For searches with a town name or "near me", the map results at the top of Google win most of the clicks. Your Google Business Profile decides whether you appear there. Set the primary category to Car detailing service. Then add Ceramic coating, Machine polishing and Paint correction as individual services, each with a short description and a "from" price.
Mention ceramic coating and the towns you cover naturally in your business description. Never add keywords to your business name. It breaks Google's guidelines and can get the profile suspended. Our Google Business Profile setup guide for detailers covers every setting step by step.
2. Give ceramic coating its own page on your website
A homepage that lists ten services rarely ranks for any of them. A page that is only about ceramic coating can. It should cover:
- What's included at each level, and how long each coating is expected to last
- The prep: wash, decontamination and how much paint correction the car needs before it's coated
- How long you need the car, and the aftercare you'll ask for
- The coating brand you use, and whether you're an approved installer
- Real photos of your own coating work
- "From" prices, a few honest FAQs and a clear way to book or get a quote
Do the same for machine polishing or paint correction. They're separate searches with separate customers, and correction is often the way into a coating sale.
3. Show your prices
"How much is ceramic coating" is one of the most searched questions in detailing. If your site won't answer it, the customer goes to a site that will. You don't need a fixed price for every car. "From" prices by car size, plus a line on what makes the price go up (paint condition, size, extra coatings for wheels or glass), are enough. Showing prices also filters out people who were never going to book, so you spend less time on quotes that go nowhere.
4. Turn every coating job into proof
Detailing is visual, and coating customers want to see results on cars like theirs. On every job, take a few shots before you start: a 50/50 under a light, a water-beading clip, and a finished walkaround. Then use them three ways:
- Post the photos to your Google Business Profile the same week.
- Write a short case study on your website, for example "Ceramic coating on a Tesla Model 3 in Hastings". These pages pick up the very specific searches that bigger sites ignore.
- Cut the clip into a Short, Reel or TikTok.
Blur number plates, and ask the customer first.
5. Get reviews that mention the coating
A steady flow of reviews matters more than a big burst. Ask every customer, by text, with a direct link, the day you hand the car back. It's fine to say "it helps if you mention what we did", because a review that says "ceramic coating on my Golf R" helps you show up for coating searches. Don't script reviews or offer discounts for them: Google's policies don't allow it.
Reply to every review within a couple of days, and mention the service and the town naturally when you do.
6. Add pages for the towns you actually work in
If you cover several towns, a page for each one can help you show up there. The catch: a page that swaps the town name into the same text is what Google calls a doorway page, and it won't help. Only build a town page when you have something real to say about it, such as jobs you've done there, photos, reviews from local customers and how you cover the area. Your case studies make this much easier.
7. Get listed by the coating brand you use
Most professional coating brands run an installer or approved-detailer programme with a "find an installer" page. Being listed puts you in front of people who've already chosen the product. It also gives you a relevant link to your website, which helps you rank. Check the requirements for the brand you use. If you're not on an installer programme yet, it's worth asking what it takes.
8. Reply fast
Coating enquiries often go to two or three detailers at once, and the first good reply usually wins. Turn on notifications for your Google profile messages, website form and Instagram. Have a short reply ready that answers the price question and offers a time to look at the car. A quote calculator or online booking on your website does this for you, even at 10pm.
9. Sell the aftercare
A coated car needs looking after, and that's repeat work. Book a maintenance wash or a 12-month inspection when you hand the car back, and send a reminder when it's due. Happy coating customers are also your best source of referrals, so make it easy for them. A card in the glovebox with your details and a referral offer works well.
Where to start
If you only do three things this month, do these:
- Get your Google Business Profile right.
- Build a proper ceramic coating page with prices.
- Start asking every customer for a review.
Those three changes alone can make a visible difference. KB Mobile Detail, a site we built in Hastings, appeared in Google searches 611 times in its first 16 days. After that, it's one new case study, town page or guide each month, plus a steady flow of photos and reviews.
